Trendy Hot Italian Sausages with Whole Wheat Pasta

Not all Tomato Sauce are created equal, choose your favorite wisely.

Easy Meal Ready in under 20 Minutes, this recipe will surely be a family favorite.

Kitchen Gadgets and needs: Pot for boiling pasta, one deep skillet, cutting boards for meat and cheese, cooking spoon, cheese grater for Parmesan (if needed), 2 Cooking spoons, cutting knife, 2 Sifters

Ingredients: Serves two
  • Whole Grain Pasta-- I used Ronzoni or Barilla according to Serving size on package (tip:one bunch in the Palm of your hand about less than one inch thick makes for two servings.)
  •  3 cups Marinara Tomato Sauce - I like to use Heart Healthy Prego, Victoria, or Classico among others
  • 3 Mild Hot Italian Sausages- cut into thick slices as shown in photo
  • Parmesan cheese- to taste
  • Red Onions- Sliced or diced to taste
  • Rosemary- 1/2 tablespoon or your favorite Italian Herbs Seasoning
  • Olive Oil - 1 tablespoon
Method: Prepare all the foods as described above.
Pasta: Boil the Water in the pot and start to cook the pasta according to directions in the box. I like mine soft, and I go all the way with 15 minutes of cooking in boiling water, stirring it occasionally with the cooking spoon.

Sausages: Meanwhile Heat up the skillet on medium low with Olive oil. (Tip: Test the amount of heat with a sample of onions inside the oil as it is heating up)  Add the Sausages with the onions and Rosemary and turning the sausages around on their raw sides every minute or so to make the sides evenly toasted.

Leave on Medium Low and cook for about 8 minutes  or more, turning it frequently, depending on how toasty you like it. Once cooked in the center (tip: check one by cutting it in half and make sure there are no raw pink centers) add tomato sauce in skillet and stir to marry all of the flavors together so that you have a Sausage tomato Sauce. Lower the heat to a simmer, that would be about a 1 on some dials, and cover with a lid.

The pasta should be ready now, test it by tasting, and drain the water out. (tip:Using 2 sifters, place the smaller drainer underneath the larger one if you can so that the bottom of the sink does not touch the drainer you are using) You are now ready to serve it with your favorite Gluten Free bread. I place the pasta on the dish first and then with a ladle add the sauce on top as shown below and don't forget the Parmesan cheese.

For those experiencing cold or breezy days where your looking for an easy stomach warming meal, this recipe was designed for you. So easy your children can learn how to cook this with you granted they like some spice in their food, aim for mild instead of hot.  Customize it your won way by adding vegetables to the sauce such as sliced carrots or yellow peppers. I think this meal is trendy because it's not your average pasta dish. By using whole grain pasta, and choosing a heart healthy or low sodium tomato sauce you are really making a an improved difference in
cholesterol, vitamin, and fat intake.
